MaturaJeremiah Lord (20) Shot Dead in Gang Shootout; One Wounded

Thomas Trace, near cell tower and Matura Police Station, Matura, Sangre Grande

Jeremiah Lord, 20, of Mooniram Road, Tacarigua, was shot dead during a gunbattle along Thomas Trace, Matura on Friday July 4th, 2025 around 8:28 p.m. Police responding to reports of loud explosions found Lord unresponsive in a bushy area approximately five feet north of the roadway, showing faint signs of life; he was pronounced dead on arrival at Sangre Grande Hospital. A 24-year-old man was also shot and wounded in the same incident, sustaining gunshot wounds to his right heel and thigh. He told police he was walking west along Thomas Trace with a headlamp when he saw a man pointing a firearm at him; he ran and heard several loud explosions before feeling burning sensations in his foot and leg. Officers recovered four spent 5.56 shell casings at the scene near the cell tower. Police believe the incident was a shootout between rival gangs. The investigation is ongoing.
