Las LomasFirearm and Ammunition Seized in NSOU Raid; Man Shot (22)

Chin Chin Road, Madras Settlement , Couva - Tabaquite - Talparo

A 22-year-old labourer from Chin Chin Road, Las Lomas No. 1 was shot in the upper thigh during a pre-dawn police raid on Friday, August 1st, 2025 at approximately 4:45 a.m. Officers from the National Special Operations Unit (NSOU) and Defence Force Special Forces Unit executed a search warrant under Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations targeting illegal firearms and ammunition at the suspect's residence. Upon entry and announcing their presence, the suspect became hostile and attempted to wrestle a firearm away from one of the soldiers, resulting in a struggle during which the magazine of the soldier's weapon was dislodged and the officer sustained injuries. Fearing for his colleague's safety, another soldier discharged a single round, striking the suspect in the upper thigh. A subsequent search of the suspect's room recovered one black Luger revolver. Both the injured soldier and the suspect were treated at Chaguanas Health Facility; the suspect was later transferred to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, discharged, and placed in custody at Caroni Police Station.
