ArimaFather Richard Maloney (64) Shot Dead; Wife, Daughter Wounded

Demerara Road, Arima, Carapo, Tunapuna - Piarco

Richard Maloney, 64, of Demerara Road, Arima, was shot dead while his wife and 15-year-old daughter were wounded during a home invasion late Wednesday night, July 1. Two masked gunmen posed as police officers, shouting 'Police, open up' at the back door; when Maloney opened it, they forced their way inside and opened fire. Maloney was fatally wounded with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene by a District Medical Officer; his 45-year-old wife and 15-year-old daughter were each shot in the left leg. Emergency Health Services treated the injured pair and transported them to Arima Hospital for medical care. Officers from the Arima Police Station responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11 p.m. Crime scene investigators recovered 16 spent 9mm shell casings, two live rounds of ammunition, and other items of evidential value. Police are investigating the motive and identities of the masked gunmen; no arrests have been made.
