A 39-year-old woman, Candice Gosine, and four relatives were left homeless after their house on Madras Road, Cunupia was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Gosine alleged her ex-boyfriend was responsible, claiming he had terrorised her family for months with repeated death threats and warnings he would not stop until they were all dead. Hours before the fire, the suspect allegedly pelted the house with large stones; later that day, he allegedly scaled the property perimeter, used a grinder to force open two safes, stole cash, jewellery and valuables, and then set the house on fire. Gosine reported making numerous police complaints about the threats and harassment prior to the incident, but the abuse allegedly continued. Fire Service investigators are determining the exact cause of the blaze, while police are expected to continue enquiries into the woman's allegations regarding the suspect's identity and involvement.
