Man shot in the leg during surprise attack in Carnbee (Akim Baynes, 35)

Bay Road, Carnbee, Tobago

Akim Baynes, a 35-year-old Facility Technician employed with EDICOTT at Cove Estate, was ambushed and shot while washing his vehicle on Bay Street in Carnbee, Tobago on Monday, June 16th, 2025 at approximately 6:15 p.m. A vehicle of unknown make, model, and registration pulled up nearby, and a man exited the vehicle, pointed a firearm at Baynes without warning, and fired a single shot before fleeing the scene. Baynes immediately felt a burning sensation in his left leg and realized he had been shot. He was assisted by a nearby individual and transported to Scarborough Regional Hospital for treatment. Baynes remains warded in stable condition. Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and the identity of the suspect. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
