Devaughn Toussaint, 38, and his girlfriend Amily Hanandez were ambushed by a gunman outside their townhouse at Jade Court in Lisas Gardens, Couva on Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM. A grey Toyota Corolla pulled alongside the couple and a toddler they were with, and a shooter wearing a dark grey hoodie and grey track pants emerged and opened fire. Toussaint was shot four times near a play park outside his home and died at the scene; Hanandez was shot multiple times on the playfield and died later at hospital. The toddler present during the shooting was not harmed. Police noted that Toussaint had previously been imprisoned for firearm-related offences. Detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Region Three, Couva CID, and Central Division Task Force responded to the scene. Investigations are continuing and no arrests have been made at this time.
