An elderly couple from Rio Claro were ambushed by three armed men around 7:20 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd, 2025, as they prepared to leave their home in their white Toyota Corolla. The suspects forced them back inside, tied their hands and feet, and robbed them of three cellphones and over $1,100 in cash before ransacking the home. The intruders then demanded the keys to a second vehicle—a red Toyota Yaris parked in the garage—and fled with both vehicles at gunpoint. One victim managed to free himself and untie the other before contacting police from a neighbor's home. Both victims sought medical attention at the Rio Claro Health Centre following the ordeal. Police launched a swift, intelligence-led operation and recovered both stolen vehicles just hours later in South Oropouche.
