TunapunaBurglars Cut Hole in Supermarket, Steal $30,000 Cash & Cigarettes

Eastern Main Road, Mega Savings Supermarket, Tunapuna, Tunapuna - Piarco

Mega Savings Supermarket on Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna was breached overnight, with thieves escaping with approximately $30,000 in cash and a quantity of cigarettes. The business had been secured and locked at 10 p.m. on Thursday May 7th, but when a THOR Security Services officer arrived Friday morning around 8 a.m., he discovered signs of forced entry on the eastern side of the building, including a moved shelf and shattered glass window. Investigators determined that the burglars gained entry by cutting a hole through a section beneath a staircase and breaching a burglar-proof gate on the western side of the building. The intruders ransacked the office and other areas inside the supermarket, locating and stealing the cash and cigarettes. Police believe the suspects exited through the same route they used to enter. The investigation is ongoing with no arrests reported at the time of discovery.
