Prisoner found dead at Arouca prison classified as murder (hands tied behind back)

A prisoner at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca was found dead late Friday, June 13th, 2025, hanging inside his cell with his hands tied behind his back. The discovery of the body with this deeply disturbing detail—hands bound while suspended—prompted immediate investigation by authorities. Police have officially classified the death as murder following the investigation. Sources confirmed that a chilling image circulating on social media showing a man hanging from beneath a triple-tier bunk bed with his hands bound depicts the deceased inmate. Officers from the Region 2 Homicide Bureau of Investigations and the Arouca Police Station remain at the prison as investigations intensify into what authorities have described as an 'extremely serious and disturbing' incident. Authorities are particularly alarmed given that the victim was under the care and custody of the state at the time of his death.
