Sangre GrandeKnife-Wielding Bandit Killed During Robbery Attempt

A 30-year-old hire car driver was robbed and assaulted on Guaico Tamana Road near Hometown Supermarket in Sangre Grande around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026. One of two male passengers who had boarded at 69 Bar and Lounge struck the driver in the mouth with a glass bottle and attempted to take control of the vehicle. The driver, fearing for his safety, armed himself with a fillet knife from the vehicle and stabbed the attacker once in the upper chest. Both men exited the vehicle and fled. The injured driver drove to Sangre Grande Police Station to report the incident and sought medical treatment for his injuries. Police responded to reports of a man lying motionless along Guaico Tamana Road near Friday's Restaurant. The injured suspect was rushed to Sangre Grande Hospital by passersby but was pronounced dead at 6:13 a.m. Dead is Ronaldo Singh, 21, of Howsen Village, Coryal. Singh's driver's permit and cellular phone were recovered at the scene. Crime Scene Investigators processed the hire vehicle and photographed the driver's injuries as investigations continue.
