A taxi driver and female passenger were shot during a failed carjacking attempt on Laventille Road near 42nd Street, Laventille on Friday, May 15, 2026 at approximately 8:40 p.m. The driver was operating a silver Nissan AD Wagon when a man entered the back seat claiming another passenger was approaching, followed by a second armed suspect who demanded the driver not move. The driver accelerated to escape and gunshots were fired, shattering the driver's side window and striking the driver in the right arm and the female passenger in the right shin. Both victims were transported to Port of Spain General Hospital where they were treated and listed in stable condition; the woman was later discharged while the driver remained under medical assessment. Crime scene investigators recovered a projectile lodged in the driver's door and two spent 9mm shell casings from the roadway, confirming the use of a firearm during the attack. Officers are investigating the incident; no arrests have been made at the time of reporting.
