A 32-year-old Learning Support Assistant lost $6,000 in a fraudulent online vehicle transaction on Facebook Marketplace on June 4, 2026, after being promised a blue Nissan Tiida hatchback under a 'work-to-own' arrangement. The victim made three separate payments totalling $6,000 as a mandatory deposit, with arrangements made for delivery at St. Clair Police Station later that day. The seller never arrived at the agreed location, and the victim became suspicious when WhatsApp messages with the seller were deleted and all communication ceased. Police are treating the matter as a suspected online scam; WPC Juman is continuing enquiries into the incident.
