CouvaWoman Escapes Through Window After Ex Doused Her With Flammable Liquid (Alana Joseph, 41)

Carli Bay Road, Couva, Couva - Tabaquite - Talparo

Alana Joseph, 41, of Carli Bay Road, Couva, was attacked by her common-law husband Robin Lalchan Basdeo, 55, around 8:15 p.m. on Monday, June 22, after an argument escalated at their home. Basdeo allegedly doused Joseph with a flammable liquid and threatened to set her and the children on fire, then armed himself with a knife and a piece of corrugated steel. Joseph sustained multiple stab wounds and lacerations as Basdeo attacked her with both weapons, striking and slashing her repeatedly. Joseph escaped through an open window and fled to a neighbour's home for safety, later being transported to Couva District Health Facility and then transferred to San Fernando General Hospital for treatment. Police located Basdeo on a nearby street following a search operation and arrested him; he was taken into custody at Couva Police Station where he remains pending further investigations.
