Customs and Excise Division officers seized over $1.4 million worth of suspected marijuana and a concealed firearm during a targeted inspection at a Customs Bonded Area in Port of Spain on Monday, June 22, 2026. The shipment contained 11 packages of green plant-like substance believed to be marijuana, consigned to a retired Customs and Excise officer. A firearm was discovered hidden inside a washer and dryer unit within the shipment, carefully concealed in what investigators believe was an attempt to evade detection. Customs officers are investigating the origin of the shipment, its intended recipients, and whether additional persons are connected to the importation. The operation was described as intelligence-led enforcement to protect the nation's borders.
