A woman from Maraval was walking along Chacon Street in Port of Spain on Tuesday afternoon, June 23, around 1:50 p.m. when she was approached by a female who requested to make a phone call. The victim handed over her Samsung cellphone to the woman, who allegedly ran off with the device in a northerly direction. Officers from the Port of Spain Task Force, including PC Williams and WPC Lewis, responded after the matter was reported to the Police Command Centre. Around 3:15 p.m., while conducting enquiries near Maraj Jewellers on South Quay, the victim spotted and positively identified the suspect as she exited an establishment. Police detained an 18-year-old woman from Barataria in connection with the theft; a search was conducted but the stolen cellphone was not recovered. The suspect remains in custody pending further enquiries by WPC Collette.
