Hosein Street at Priority Bus Route, Laventille, Port of Spain

A 40-year-old Venezuelan woman was robbed of her handbag on Hosein Street, Laventille on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at approximately 6:30 a.m. after exiting a maxi taxi along the Priority Bus Route. The suspect approached from behind and pulled the victim by her hair, then grabbed her grey handbag which was slung over her left shoulder. A struggle ensued, but the attacker overpowered the woman and fled with the bag in an unknown direction. The stolen handbag contained a Huawei Pura Pro Max cellphone valued at $3,000, $1,800 in cash, the victim's Venezuelan national identification card, and a Venezuelan identification card belonging to her daughter. The suspect was described as a slim, dark-complexioned man of African descent, approximately 6 feet tall, with cornrowed hair. Police are investigating the robbery; no arrests have been made at the time of reporting.
