Suspect Shakeem Gabriel, also known as 'Kunta' of Farm Road, St Joseph, was located by police officers inside an abandoned building at the corner of Joyeau and McInroy streets (formerly Jumbo Gym) during a search operation on Monday. Officers ordered Gabriel to drop a firearm he was pointing in their direction; instead, he opened fire on the officers. The officers took cover and returned fire, striking Gabriel several times. Gabriel was transported to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said subsequent checks revealed Gabriel was a suspect in several criminal investigations.
