Man shot multiple times in St. James (24, Belmont resident)

Benares Street, St. James, Port of Spain

A 24-year-old man from Belmont was shot multiple times during an early morning incident on Benares Street in St. James on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, around 12:15 a.m. Police responded to reports of loud explosions in the area and discovered the wounded victim at a residence on Benares Street. The victim sustained between eight and 12 gunshot wounds, including a shot to the head and injuries to other parts of his body. He had been staying in the Benares Street area for approximately three months prior to the incident. Emergency Health Services transported the victim to St. James Medical Complex, where he received treatment and was listed in stable condition. Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
