A man identifying himself as 'Anthony' contacted QSP Hardware via WhatsApp on March 7, 2026, requesting to purchase building materials. On March 10, the suspect forwarded what appeared to be a First Citizens Bank online transfer receipt for $29,000, the full quoted amount. Believing payment had been received, the hardware store released the materials, which were collected on March 11 and 12 by two delivery drivers and transported to another hardware store in the Carenage area. The owner later discovered the funds had never been deposited into the company's account, and attempts to contact the buyer were unsuccessful. Police obtained security camera footage and are investigating.
