Police seize M16 assault rifle and ammunition from elderly couple's yard

During an anti-crime exercise conducted by the Western Division Gang Intelligence Unit on January 15, 2026, between 3 and 7 pm, police discovered an illegal M16 A2 assault rifle hidden on the property of an unsuspecting elderly couple in Diego Martin. Officers received intelligence that criminals from the community were using the premises to stash weapons and conducted a search of the compound. While checking under a wooden storage shed, they recovered a black M16 A2 assault rifle loaded with 24 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, a pink knapsack containing four rounds of 7.62 ammunition, and two additional magazines. The operation was sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams and coordinated by multiple officers including W/Asp Aguilleria and Inspector Grant. PC Mootie of the West End Police Station is continuing investigations into the seizure.
