A 19-year-old man was shot in the hand near a bar on Tumpuna Road South, Arima, shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, while attempting to flee from an armed assailant. The victim had stepped away from the bar establishment and entered a nearby bushy area when he was confronted by an unidentified gunman who ordered him not to move. Frightened, the victim ran from the area, and the suspect fired several shots, striking the victim's hand as he fled. The injured man sought help from nearby patrons and residents, and police officers responded shortly after. The victim was transported to Arima General Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound to his hand. Officers from the Arima Police Station are investigating the shooting; the suspect remains at large and no arrests have been made.
