Claxton BayCivil Engineer Kidnapped, Robbed of $29,000 in Jewellery (42)

Southern Main Road near Claxton Bay Fishing Facility, Claxton Bay, Couva - Tabaquite - Talparo

A 42-year-old civil engineer was kidnapped at gunpoint and robbed of more than $29,000 in jewellery and personal belongings on Thursday afternoon along the Southern Main Road near Claxton Bay Fishing Facility. The victim was stopped to investigate a noise from his white Toyota Hilux around 2 p.m. when two men approached; one pointed a firearm and forced him into a white pirogue waiting in the nearby bay, where a third suspect was already aboard. While on the vessel, the assailants robbed him of a gold Cuban-link chain valued at $12,000, a gold ring with tanzanite gemstone valued at $7,000, a gold Michael Kors watch valued at $4,000, and a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra cellphone valued at $6,000. The men also seized his vehicle keys and threw both the phone and keys into the sea. The victim was assaulted during the ordeal, receiving several blows to his back. The kidnappers later tied his hands and feet at a jetty near Dan Steel before fleeing in the pirogue, leaving him behind. The victim freed himself and made his way to the nearby Schlumberger compound, where he contacted police. Officers recovered his Toyota Hilux, which was towed to the San Fernando Police Station for forensic processing.
