St AugustineCoconut Vendor Amar Bissoon (20) Shot Dead by Gunman

Dookiesingh Street Extension, opposite Samaroo Avenue, St Augustine

Coconut vendor Amar Bissoon, 20, of Dookiesingh Street Extension, St Augustine, was shot and killed on Thursday evening around 6:30 PM while sitting on the pavement opposite Samaroo Avenue with his girlfriend, selling coconuts. A white Nissan AD Wagon (registration PDA 1569) pulled up in front of them, and a man exited from the left rear passenger seat, approached Bissoon, and fired multiple shots at his head and body before returning to the vehicle and fleeing. Bissoon's girlfriend ran into a nearby yard and escaped injury; when she returned moments later, she found him bleeding. Relatives rushed Bissoon to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:40 PM. Officers from the St Augustine Police Station recovered 11 spent 9mm Luger shell casings at the scene; no arrests have been made and the motive remains under investigation.
