Port of SpainPolice Officer Assaulted During TRIBE Event Confrontation

TRIBE band launch event venue, Port of Spain
Source: CNC 3

A police officer was physically assaulted on Sunday morning, July 6, 2026, during a confrontation at the TRIBE band launch event in Port of Spain. Five Silver Stars Steel Orchestra players — Jelani Cielto, Xavier Villafana, Aquila Pereira, Andel Hamlet, and Glenanne De Silva — were arrested following the incident. According to police, the confrontation escalated after the players continued performing past the 2 AM music cutoff time stipulated in the event licence; when police interrupted them, several individuals became verbally abusive and confrontational. The officer sustained injuries during the altercation and was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital for medical examination and treatment before being discharged. Pereira was specifically charged with assaulting a police officer, while all five were charged with obscene language, disorderly behaviour, and resisting arrest. The five were granted station bail on Monday evening and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 14, 2026. Silver Stars management denied that its members assaulted police, stating the players did not aggress or put hands on anyone and complied when asked to stop playing.
