CunupiaHomeless Man Slashes Police Officer with Broken Bottle

A 43-year-old homeless man assaulted Police Constable Ramrattan on Southern Main Road near Manzana Drive, Cunupia on Thursday afternoon around 2:30 PM. Officers from the Central Division Task Force responded to reports of a man armed with a broken bottle behaving disorderly along the roadway. When officers ordered him to drop the weapon, he ran off, prompting a foot chase. During a struggle when officers caught up with him, the man allegedly slashed PC Ramrattan on the right leg with the broken bottle. The suspect was subdued and arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, possession of an offensive weapon, and assaulting a police officer. Both the suspect and the injured officer received medical treatment at the Chaguanas Health Facility. Police are investigating the assault; the suspect faces multiple charges.
