An 8-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her 63-year-old grandfather at their shared family home in Rio Claro on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. The victim disclosed the assault to her 19-year-old mother, who immediately took her to Rio Claro Police Station to lodge a formal report. During an interview with police in her mother's presence, the child revealed that the suspect had allegedly sexually assaulted her on several previous occasions at the same address. The victim was taken to Rio Claro Health Centre where she underwent a medical examination. Officers from the Child Protection Unit are continuing enquiries and an investigator is expected to be appointed shortly.
