Armed robbery at Diego Martin mini mart; four employees and customer targeted

St. Lucien Road, VML Mini Mart, Diego Martin

Four employees and a customer were at the VML Mini Mart on St. Lucien Road around 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday when a man posing as a customer drew a firearm and was joined by three other masked men. The assailants physically assaulted the employees and robbed them of cell phones, a gold chain valued at $3,000, approximately $2,000 in cash, alcohol, cigarettes, and two Republic Bank credit cards belonging to the business owners. The robbers escaped in two stolen vehicles: a white Nissan NP300 taken from a customer and a gold Nissan Almera that had brought them to the scene. Police set up roadblocks between 6:05 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Powder Magazine and Phase One in Cocorite. Officers recovered the NP300 abandoned at Farm Road, Cocorite, along with a .45 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition, and a mask. After a brief foot chase, two suspects—a 20-year-old from Diego Martin and a 22-year-old from Laventille—were arrested. The gold Almera was also recovered containing alcohol, cigarettes, and cash believed to be from the robbery.
