Gunmen chase, murder man in East Dry River (Hakim O'Brien, 25)

Corner of Piccadilly and Prince Streets, Port of Spain, Port of Spain

Hakim O'Brien, a 25-year-old labourer of Rudolph Charles Link Road, Laventille, and Lovell Place, East Dry River, was fatally shot on Sunday evening around 6:15 p.m. at the corner of Prince and Duncan Streets. O'Brien was driving along Prince Street with two passengers when another vehicle blocked him as he turned onto Piccadilly Street. After reversing and colliding with a bridge, O'Brien exited the vehicle and was chased by four armed men who opened fire, fatally wounding him. One of the passengers, a man in his late 20s from Laventille, sustained minor bullet fragment injuries to his abdomen and chest and was treated and discharged from the Port of Spain General Hospital. The other passenger was uninjured. Police from the Duncan Street Police Post secured the area and are investigating the fatal shooting. The attackers fled on foot heading north along Piccadilly Street and onto Jackson Place behind the Mango Rose Apartments. A vehicle believed to have been used by the assailants was later found abandoned at the corner of Piccadilly and Prince Streets.
