A 56-year-old shop owner and his 40-year-old Venezuelan employee were shot during an armed robbery at a sales tent along Gulf View Link Road on Saturday night around 7 p.m. Two men of African descent approached the business; one was approximately six feet tall, medium-built, dark brown complexion, armed with a firearm and wearing dark clothing, while the second was about five feet ten inches tall, medium-built, also in dark clothing. When the suspects announced the robbery, the proprietor armed himself with a cutlass and attempted to defend himself and his property, resulting in a struggle. Three gunshots were fired during the confrontation; the proprietor sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen while the employee was shot in the left arm. The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash believed to represent the day's sales. Police responded to the incident and are investigating the armed robbery and shooting.
