Man beaten unconscious with baton during market altercation (Stephan Burtley, 40)

Near Siparia Market, vicinity of NP Quick Shop, Siparia

A 40-year-old Siparia man, Stephan Burtley of Well Road, was severely beaten with a baton during a violent altercation near Siparia Market on Monday night, February 23, 2026, around 9:30 PM. Officers responding to an anonymous report of an attack found Burtley lying unconscious on the roadway. Three men were detained at the scene, with one suspect admitting to officers that he struck Burtley with a baton. Burtley sustained injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. He was initially treated at Siparia District Health Facility before being transferred to San Fernando General Hospital for further medical care and remains warded. The three suspects were taken into custody at Siparia Police Station pending further enquiries. Police confirmed the men admitted to involvement in the altercation with Burtley.
