On Sunday, March 1, 2026, around 10:00 p.m., a 26-year-old Coast Guard officer returned home to Couva to find his house engulfed in flames with his mother inside. His mother managed to escape unharmed before emergency responders arrived. The officer then encountered a 39-year-old woman standing along the roadway wielding a cutlass, who had been involved in a physical altercation with his friend earlier that evening at a bar in California. When the officer confronted the suspect, she allegedly taunted him before attacking him along with her two sons, striking him on the head with the cutlass and causing injuries. The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service responded and extinguished the blaze, but the house was completely destroyed. The officer was transported to Couva Health Facility for stabilization and then transferred to San Fernando General Hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
