Man defrauded and robbed of Samsung S25 smartphone during Facebook Marketplace transaction

Corner of Park and Charlotte Streets, extending to Bath Street, Port of Spain

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a victim from Diego Martin met with a suspect at the corner of Park and Charlotte Streets in Port of Spain to complete the sale of a Samsung S25 smartphone valued at TT$11,000 through a Facebook Marketplace arrangement. The suspect, described as a slim, dark-skinned man of African descent approximately 5'11" tall wearing a black short-sleeved jersey and black jeans, handed the victim a brown envelope claiming it contained cash. Upon inspection, the envelope contained only paper, revealing the deception. The suspect then snatched the smartphone from the victim's hand and fled east along Park Street onto Bath Street. Police are investigating the incident and searching for the suspect.
