Woman defrauded of $10,000 in online vehicle purchase scam

Independence Square, Scotiabank, Port of Spain

A woman visited Scotiabank on Independence Square around 10:00 AM on March 19, 2026, and deposited $5,000 into an account under the name Amina Bethel as part of a rent-to-own agreement for a dark green Honda Vezel valued at $65,000, advertised by Car Hive Limited. Days later, around 9:00 AM on March 23, she returned to the same bank and deposited an additional $5,000 to the same account in connection with the purchase. The victim has received neither the vehicle nor any further communication from the seller, indicating the transaction was fraudulent.
