The home of 68-year-old Savitree Ramoutar on St Julien Road, Naparima Mayaro Road, Princes Town was destroyed by fire on Monday night around 7 p.m. in what police are investigating as suspected arson. Ramoutar was staying elsewhere after being threatened by a relative; neighbours reported the fire started at the front door with a mat allegedly lit and pushed under the door, causing the wooden structure to burn rapidly. The house was completely destroyed and Ramoutar lost all her possessions including documents, cash, jewelry, and clothing, with losses estimated at $150,000. A neighbouring structure was also affected by the blaze. A 47-year-old relative was detained by police at the scene. Police are investigating the incident.
