FreeportFive Armed Men Rob Group of Friends, Steal $30,000 Cash and Jewellery

Bholai Trace East, Freeport, Agostini , Couva - Tabaquite - Talparo

Four friends from Central Trinidad were robbed at a residence on Bholai Trace East, Freeport on Wednesday around 11 p.m. by five armed suspects who announced the robbery upon arrival. The victims were robbed of cash, gold jewellery, and cellphones; one victim, a 42-year-old homeowner who runs a scrap iron business, lost approximately $30,000 in cash. During the 25-minute ordeal, the four friends were forced to lie facedown on the ground, and the 42-year-old was taken to another room, beaten, and threatened with violence including threats to cut off his finger. The suspects escaped in a black Nissan Note belonging to one of the victims; the vehicle was later recovered at Golconda Connector Road, San Fernando. One of the victims told police they believe the attack was targeted, stating the suspects appeared to know their routine and that the homeowner has been robbed multiple times before in similar circumstances. A 23-year-old male from Corvin Trace, Upper Laventille, was arrested and detained by police in connection with the robbery; four other suspects remain at large.
