Woman sexually assaulted near plantain field (35)

Naparima Mayaro Road, near plantain field, Poole Village, Poole , Mayaro - Rio Claro

A 35-year-old woman from the Guayaguayare area was sexually assaulted in the early hours of Saturday morning along the Naparima Mayaro Road in Poole Village. She had been socialising earlier in the day and was dropped off at San Pedro Junction by an unknown man, after which she began walking west along the roadway. While stopped near a plantain field to urinate, she was suddenly attacked from behind by an unknown assailant who sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to fight off her attacker and continued walking. The same man then followed her, wearing a white jersey and armed with a knife with a green handle. He grabbed her hand and threatened her, warning her not to attempt to stop any passing vehicles. Her ordeal ended when a passing motorist noticed the suspicious interaction and stopped to help. The woman indicated she needed assistance, and the suspect immediately fled, running beneath a bridge and into nearby bushes. Rio Claro police are investigating the incident.
