A 35-year-old contractor from Gasparillo reported the theft of tools and equipment valued at $119,915 from a secured container at the WASA Treatment Plant in Chatham on March 23, 2026. The container had been secured on the evening of March 21, but when workers arrived around 8:00 a.m. on March 23, they discovered it had been breached. Stolen items included welding plants, grinders, drills, cutting tools, gas cylinders, extension cords and other construction gear. Officers responding to the report observed that the latch on the 20-foot container had been cut, and a damaged padlock was found on the ground nearby. Investigations are ongoing.
