Officers from Maracas Bay Police Station responded to reports of loud explosions and found James's bloodied body along the roadway; he was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer. Crime Scene Investigators recovered nine spent shell casings at the scene—eight 5.56mm rifle casings and one 9mm casing—indicating the attackers used both a high-powered AR-15 rifle and a handgun during the assault. Detectives are investigating whether the murder stemmed from an escalating conflict: James's brother was involved in an altercation with a man on June 21, and the following day James confronted the same individual, who allegedly threatened to kill both brothers. Police are examining the connection between those threats and Friday's fatal shooting.
